Realistic Self-Portrait Time

A goof-proof exercise from my comics workshop: draw an imaginary self portrait, then include it in a comic with your 'real' self. I'm not sure what the red face mask tooth thing is, but the kids assured me that they had no clue, either. These things happen, yet we managed to trudge on in wooden sandals.

Stop Work, Shop Comic Books

Little in library ad for the teen comic book workshop I started yesterday. It continues through the summer, nearly each Tuesday from 2 to 4. We'll be working on characters, stories, dialogue, and layout while making various mini-comics-slash-li'l-zines galore. Yeah, an' I might make a few here and there, too, with all the unfussy fun flyin' 'round. Dang, them kids is inspirational conflagarations, fawoosh woosh! Micron, sharpie, and marker on paper.

Another Somewhat Close Mate Call With a Black Swan
Dedicated to Mak, who, despite possessing full sobriety and maximum wakefulness, had a brief run-in with a stray:
No, no, I wasn't there, but he drove out of my driveway approximately ten minutes prior. The details were related considerably later, when I felt like turning my cell phone on after a week or so. Luckily, he didn't disturb my easy going evening. Or my following day. And so on.
Highly recommend the latest Long Now Seminar on Long-term Thinking. The speaker is the highly controversial Nassim Nicholas Taleb. Give it a go. It's academia except you can turn it off.
And one more plug for the comic workshop:

This is just a preliminary post so I can print out and manufacture these little babies. I'll post some individual pages in a subsequent post and/or on my flickr account.

Stompin' inna Fields, Levees, an' Jukes
Even Skip himself will admit that I'm so glad I work at the Library. As will the growing (nay, swelling) turnout for my weekly Teen Performance Poetry Workshop. We've been diggin' through Delta Blues for the last few sessions, and, alas, I believe we are moving onwards, towards the metropolitan bustle of spoken word. You know, that whole spoken word thing.
Y'know, stippling along?
Isn't 'juke' the best monosyllabic you've read today?

Can't Slay this Revamp Number Three
Check out the new, officially officialized county-seal-wise bit of proper poetic edification workshop flyer:

Bang. All three meetings have been ludicrous and successful. Onwards!

Big Time Mews

Yes, I'm still alive.
Rest uneasy, though, because I'm back on photomop with a vengeance, spending all my free time dollars in the dark, skin pale, eyes bulbous and unseeing. Shriveled. Still, it's worth it. I've got a bangin' anouncement to make:
I'm leading a Teen Performance Poetry Workshop on Wednesday nights at 7pm, Sept. 25 to November 27, an ongoing group hosted by the fabulous Woodlawn Library. Just finished the pamphlet flier design and plan to print the first wave of tri-folds tonight.

The first image is the outside, the second image is the interior spread, double-sided, dig? If all goes well, I'll have the physical real deal to post this evening. Feel free to print them out and spread the word! Even you foreign country types! Can't hurt!
