One Trick Python

This piece evolved over a couple weeks from no snake to mostly snake and though it's an illustration for a story I haven't yet written, or may never write, I'm sure there are already sixty-dozen heavily-documented mythological stories that could fit it perfectly.  And sketchbook-wise, I'm a firm believer that there's not a composition out there that couldn't benefit from a little ophidian action. 

I'm in winterland now without scanner access, so this will have to suffice as my holiday picture.  It's got green and red, right?  And ample snakeage!

See, they used to be friends, but then the little dude went and insulted everybody and their mums and arranged Balder's death and unleashed Ragnarok and generally forgot to put the seat down.  Norse mythology is loaded with so much gender bending, species-swapping, and giant-hating/mating that half the time I have no idea what's going on. 

Bifröst in Line or The Prose Meta

Dear Aesir, I am pretty certain that you have the coolest pantheon of gods ever.  I have way too much fun drawing you, especially the disillusioned chicks with spears and anyone who rides a boar to work.


On a side note, one of the children's books I skimmed debunked the 'viking helmets had horns' myth not once, but four times.  Apparently not even vikings could be that hip.
