Six months ago, I made some self-portrait potato print. The potato was a bit too wet for carving, but I made due.
Does anyone remember Ed Emberley's Thumbprint Books? I thought they were too cool, especially with his sequentially built drawings (and the little drawing elements he categorized). In the back of one of his books, there was a description of alternative printing methods and materials.
